Early in 1987, Sambro Fisheries Ltd. opened for business in the heart of the historic fishing community of Sambro, Nova Scotia. Since then, we have grown to become a leading processor of the highest quality sustainably sourced seafood, and trusted by top foodservice operators around the world.
These days, Sambro Fisheries serves as a primary seafood source for retailers, wholesalers, distributors, restaurants, and fine dining facilities around the world. Our team sources fresh finfish, groundfish and shellfish primarily from our local community based independent fishers and throughout Atlantic Canada.
Whether it’s our specialty Marine Stewardship Council certified Atlantic Halibut or the fresh wild caught haddock fillets we are famous for locally, if it is part of a sustainable fisheries management plan, the Sambro Fisheries/Tribune Seafood team can source it for you.
Built on the original site of an earlier plant, we’ve now grown into a modern 25,000 square foot facility with our own integrated dockside offloading facilities, dedicated processing areas, cold storage, blast freezer and ice making capabilities. Our fully traceable supply chain logistics means that the fish caught, offloaded and processed in our plant today arrives in local markets the same day – and ships to most international destinations overnight for the morning market openings.
We are a federally CFIA registered and inspected facility and strictly adhere to all Safe Food For Canadians act protocols. We are also FDA registered maintaining a rigid QMP with detailed HACCP plans in place for each and all of our products.
We are MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) certified and Trace Register compliant. Our sister company, Tribune Seafood is also TR5 registered – the gold standard for seafood traceability.
